ALBA Essay Contest
In case you are wondering, ALBA stands for (Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives.) ALBA is a non-profit organization that focuses on preserving the North American role in the Spanish Civil War. As you can imagine this organization takes history very seriously so the essay contest associated with it is going to be ideal for students who have a focus on history throughout their college careers.
As far as we can tell this scholarship is a well-kept secret and is not too competitive. If you are serious about writing an essay to get a college scholarship this particular contest may be your winning ticket. Let’s take a look at what the ALBA Essay Contest has to offer!
Students will be asked to submit an essay (thesis chapter) on any aspect of the Spanish Civil War. This means that you choose your own topic so long as it ties into the Spanish Civil War. We highly recommend that you visit the ALBA website as they give you a few example topics that could potentially be a winning ticket.
Two prizes of $250 will be awarded to the winners of the contest (one prize for an undergraduate student, one prize for a graduate student.)
Your essay will be judged by the following criteria:
- Is your topic original?
- Is your research considered quality?
- Do you make an effective argument?
Qualifications For The Scholarship
As with any scholarship, there are certain people who qualify to apply (or in this case enter the essay contest) and there are certain people who do not. According to ALBA you are eligible to enter this contest if you:
- Are either an undergraduate or graduate in College.
- Are supposed to fulfill an undergraduate or graduate course by entering the contest.
How The Essay Should Be Written
One of the biggest mistakes that you can make is not knowing how essay contest judges want essays to be formatted. We provided this section to clear up any confusion that you might be having.
- Essays should be between 3,500 – 7,000 words.
- Essays can be submitted in either English or Spanish.
- You need to include the following information: your course, your degree plan, your college, thesis chapters and a thesis abstract.
- You must also include a title page that includes: your name, address, e-mail and phone number.
